Elite Academy Leagues recap (15 Oct 2025)

Another six Academy games are completed, with both the EABL and WEABL already beginning to take shape.

Manchester Magic grabbed a statement road win over Myerscough to seize control of the EABL North, and CoLA are in pole position in the EABL South after edging past Barking.

A win for CoLA and an opening loss for Copleston also sends the balance of power towards London in the WEABL South.

Standout performances

There were big results aplenty across week two, starting with an opening loss for defending WEABL champs Copleston as they went down 79-69 against an Anna Mendez-inspired Itchen College.

Struggling with a depleted roster, Copleston couldn't come away from the road trip with a win as Mendez (21pts, 13reb, 5ast, 5/7 3pt) and Co. went to work.

That loss hurt doubly for the Suffolk side as rivals City of London Academy - Southwark flexed their might against Barking Abbey, holding BA to single digits in all four quarters to win 70-27.

In the EABL North, Manchester moved ahead of the pack as they beat North West rivals Myerscough 71-60.

Magic broke open an even contest with a 27-15 third quarter as Jack Walton (23pts, 7ast, 5/8 3pt) led his side to their second win of the season.

Likewise, CoLA moved to top spot as they knocked off defending EABL champs Barking 59-53.

BA had led by double digits entering the fourth quarter but a 25-9 frame left the hosts with a slender win, with Daniel Banjoko (14pts, 14reb) and Toby Gass (15pts, 10reb) securing double-doubles.

Elsewhere, Itchen had no problem handling Copleston in the EABL South, winning 108-57, and BMET City of Birmingham Rockets got their maiden victory in the EABL North as they beat SGS College 92-83.

What does it mean for the standings?

Manchester (EABL North), CoLA (EABL South and WEABL South) all lead the way in their respective divisions after week two wins, but there was no action in the WEABL North to alter those standings.

Copleston's loss and a 2-0 CoLA start also puts the defending WEABL champs under early pressure if they're to maintain their hold on the South regular-season title, with Barking facing a similar issue in the EABL South.

Player-of-the-week candidates

Daniel Banjoko (14pts, 14reb, 7stl 20eff) and Toby Gass (15pts, 10reb, 5ast, 17eff) were the stars as CoLA toppled Barking, putting themselves in the race for EABL honours this week.

Jack Walton (23pts, 7ast, 5/8 3pt, 25eff) was Manchester's standout up north, cancelling out a strong game from Myerscough's (17pts, 5reb, 3ast, 17eff).

Itchen's Jakub Ofman (25pts, 5reb, 29eff) enjoyed a solid ball game in the lopsided win over Copleston, as did Ethan Round (16pts, 6ast, 21eff) as eight different Itchen players recorded double digit efficiency in that one.

With just two WEABL games to go at, Itchen's Anna Mendez (21pts, 13reb, 5ast, 21eff) and Sophia Agboola (12pts, 10reb, 20eff) both stood tall despite a massive 29-point, 16-rebound double-double from Copleston's Holly Ensoll.

CoLA trio Adaora Dioramma (22pts, 10reb, 24eff), Ayla Habbal (13pts, 9reb, 7ast) and Eva-Grace Yebila (8pts, 7reb, 2blk, 16eff) also played well.

Watch out for the winner on our social channels, with the announcement going live on Friday at 12pm for the EABL, and 2pm for the WEABL.
