First look at Manchester, Loughborough

Two teams, Manchester and Loughborough, are both opening their seasons this weekend, and much will be made of how both teams line up in the early going.

The Mystics are expected to be without Irene Oboavwoduo, who is making the step up to the WSLB with Manchester. The return of former prospect Chloe Andrew should create some buzz though, alongside returners Rehana Khalil and Kizzy Spence.

Loughborough's collection of young talent should provide plenty of excitement, with former Ipswich duo Louisa Gibbins and Hannah Gray, plus CoLA's Lovelle Green and Oaklands' Caitlin Ryan also expected to feature.

Add that kind of talent into a roster that already includes the likes of Erin Caldwell and Alex Shaw, and the Riders will be aiming high this season.

WNBL National Cup

Thirteen WNBL National Cup contests are scheduled for Sunday, including some of D1W's best and brightest.

For all their recent success, CoLA have won this competition just once, back in 2016/17. They'll look to correct that trend with an opening round game against Oaklands Wolves.

Manchester Mystics are in double-header action as they host Nottingham Wildcats, as are Loughborough (home to Milton Keynes), Bristol Flyers (home to Plymouth) and Anglia Ruskin (away to Barking).

Bromsgrove will have to be careful of an upset as they travel to a former D1 side in City of Birmingham Rockets, whilst Worcester Wolves are also against another former top flight side in Reading Rockets.

That just leaves London Cavaliers to hit the road for Hemel Storm as the only other D1W side in action.
