CoLA's Ayla Habbal was close to a triple-double this weekend
Standout performances
Anglia Ruskin are off the mark for the season as they picked their first win, seeing off Bristol Flyers 74-51. A 27-9 opening frame doomed the visitors from the get-go, with ARU's lead passing the 30-point mark shortly after half time before a late fightback.
Manchester were another fast-starter, putting together a 25-9 first quarter to control their 63-39 contest against Bromsgrove, staying unbeaten at 2-0 in the process.
Loughborough lost their season opener, unable to convert a 36-33 half time lead into a win after an 18-7 third quarter for CoLA. Ayla Habbal and Eva-Grace Yebila both shone for the visitors, while the Riders were without former Ipswich duo Hannah Gray and Louisa Gibbins.
What does it mean for the standings?
Manchester are now top of the pile as the only side to make it to 2-0. CoLA control second spot at 2-1, with a host of teams below them as they slowly move into their schedules.
Loughborough (0-2) are winless, and Brent are the only side yet to play a game in 2025/26.
Player-of-the-week candidates
With just three games to factor in, there wasn't an abundance of standout performances, but some players still went above and beyond this weekend.
ARU's Tia Freeman (26pts, 5reb, 2ast, 2stl, 18eff) top-scored in Ruskin's win over Bristol, with Ilaria Zaffaroni (22pts, 5reb, 4ast, 20eff) and Vicky Gray (15pts, 11reb, 3ast, 3stl, 19eff) also contributing well to combat Veronica Iweanya's (11pts, 19reb, 14eff) big double-double.
Kizzy Spence (feature image) was the standout for the Mystics, top scoring on 21 points to go with four boards, whilst Loughborough's Caitlin Ryan (16pts, 3stl, 10eff) and Lily Blunt (4/4 FG, 9pts, 5ast, 15eff) also did well.
Nobody for the Riders could slow down CoLA duo Ayla Habbal (18pts, 10reb, 7ast, 4stl, 26eff) and Eva-Grace Yebila (19ts, 7reb, 2blk, 19eff) though, with the pair pushing their team to a deserved victory.
Watch out for the winner on our social channels, with the announcement going live at 7pm on Monday evening.
WNBL National Cup
The WNBL National Cup got underway this past weekend, with a number of D1W sides in action.
CoLA had no issues seeing off Oaklands Wolves, with a lopsided 78-21 score line, as Manchester Mystics beat Nottingham Wildcats 113-44 and London All Stars topped London Thunder 100-29.
Loughborough bounced back from their league disappointment on Saturday to ease past Milton Keynes 81-53 and Anglia Ruskin were too much for Barking Abbey to handle, with a 73-37 final score in that one.
26 points from Grace Brownell wouldn't be enough for City of Birmingham Rockets to upset D1's Bromsgrove as the Bears came through as 68-58 winners, and London Cavaliers ended the run of Hemel Storm 86-54.
Brent may be yet to play a game in D1W but did hit the court this weekend, beating East London Phoenix 75-44 thanks to 23 points from former Cobham Cobra Sophie Khlaf.
