Standout performances
CoLA were able to see off the visit of Manchester Mystics, making themselves the first team to three wins this season with a 66-53 victory.
Pride took control in a 25-11 second quarter and never looked back, outrebounding the Mystics 51-36 thanks to a double-double outing from Adaora Dioramma.
Ipswich maintained their unbeaten start to the season as they edged past Bristol 83-74 in an exciting contest that included a 29-24 fourth quarter.
Harriet Welham and co. proved to be too much for the visitors in the end, and the battle between the Ipswich captain and the Bristol trio of Durga Dharmadhikari, Veronica Iweanya (feature image) and Marlee Ball was high-quality viewing.
London All Stars came through a low-scoring grinder with Bromsgrove, winning 52-42 thanks to another double-double from Kat Goldsby, and Brent dropped their season opener as they lost out 76-63 at home to Anglia Ruskin.
32 points from Tia Freeman and 24 more from Abby Conlee were too much for the Bulls to overcome as Kate Lee (16pts) led the scoring for the hosts.
What does it mean for the standings?
Three wins means CoLA currently sit top of the pile, though Ipswich will be happy at 2-0 as they remain unbeaten.
Anglia Ruskin, London All Stars and Manchester Mystics also sit in that group on two wins, with Brent joining Loughborough as D1W’s only winless sides.
Player-of-the-week candidates
There were some usual suspects up to old tricks this weekend.
Harriet Welham continued her impressive form against Bristol with a game-high 29 points, adding 12 boards and eight assists for another solid stat line.
Durga Dharmadhikari (18pts, 4ast, 3reb, 15eff), Veronica Iweanya (11pts, 21reb, 4ast, 24eff) and Marlee Ball (23pts, 4reb, 2ast, 14eff) all countered, but it wouldn’t be enough for the Flyers.
Ayla Habbal (19pts, 5reb, 3ast, 17eff) and Debra Wilson-Osuide (21pts, 8reb, 4stl, 22eff) were CoLA’s standouts alongside Dioramma’s 10-point, 11-rebound double-double as Georgia Perdomo (20pts, 6reb, 21eff) starred for Manchester.
All Stars’ Kat Goldsby (18pts, 11reb, 7stl, 27eff) was another flirting with a near triple-double this weekend as Sarah Mullgrave (8pts, 5reb, 6stl, 15eff) impressed for Bromsgrove in reply.
Watch out for the winner on our social channels, with the announcement going live at 7pm on Monday evening.
