The Manchester Coaches Program is a new initiative funded by the National Basketball Association (NBA) and Manchester City Council, and delivered by Basketball England

This 18-month program—running from 2025 to 2027—aims to train and empower 100 new community basketball coaches across Manchester, aged 16 and above.
What the program offers
Selected participants will receive free access to a comprehensive 12-month education and training package designed to develop coaching excellence both on and off the court. This includes:
- Basketball England Community Coach qualification
- First aid certification
- Safeguarding training
- Mental health and welfare education
- Online access to NBA and Basketball England coaching resources
- In-person clinics and workshops
- One-on-one mentoring
- Basketball England coaching license and insurance
- DBS check
- NBA-branded gear and basketballs

Program objectives

How the Program Works
For Coaches
Participants will receive hands-on training, mentorship, and real-world experience. The Program will:
- Boost confidence and life skills
- Enhance coaching techniques and employability
- Assign mentors to support coaches at local clubs
- Provide on-the-job training and potential employment opportunities

For Young Players
Children aged 8–14 in schools, clubs, and community settings will benefit directly from the Program through:
- Skill-building sessions and increased playing opportunities
- Mentorship and support from trained coaches
For Clubs & Communities
Local organisations will gain access to trained coaches and resources to:
- Promote physical activity across Manchester
- Host community-based basketball sessions
- Nominate members to participate in the Program
