'Developing the whole person' - DiSE Induction Camp 2025

The Nottingham Wildcats Arena played host to this season’s DiSE Induction Camp on 20 October 2025.

The purpose of the camp was to welcome nearly 100 first-year student athletes from the Elite Academy Basketball League (EABL) and Women's Elite Academy Basketball League (WEABL) to the DiSE programme and the England Talent Programme at U16-U18 level, as well as introducing them to the GB Basketball environment.

On the day, important talent and performance workshops were delivered, including performance testing and on-court sessions.

All athletes were given free cardiac screening for the first time ever and GB Women’s lead physiotherapist Pete Thain gave a talk on how performance testing at the camp linked with performance on the court.

EABL and WEABL academy club coaches also had educational sessions and talks with GB Basketball Performance Lead Fiona Pimblett setting expectations for junior and senior GB teams over the next 12 months.

DiSE is the name for the two-year Department for Education funded programme, which is a unique sporting qualification designed to meet the needs of student athletes who exhibit the potential to achieve excellence in sport, including basketball.

BE Talent Programme and Pathway Manager Sam Messam said:

"Our focus for the day was performance and trying to advance their athletic ability and focus on playing the game but also helping them recognising there are careers beyond the court. The qualification supports our objectives at Basketball England of developing the whole person.

"Having GB Basketball staff at the camp supports our collaborative approach to developing athletes and raises the level of expertise that is on offer. This summer 26 DiSE athletes represented GB; it's understanding the DiSE qualification and our partnerships are a significant part of our player pathway and they represent some of the best athletes in the country.”
