Standout performances

It was another good week for City of London Academy - Southwark as both their programmes picked up further wins, staying unbeaten in the process.

The EABL side knocked off HHS Reading Rockets 77-65, as their WEABL team beat the same opponent 52-38.

Oaklands are off and running for the new season, with a split of results as the EABL side were beaten 96-70 against Itchen as the girls bounced back to run out as 75-50 winners against the South coast programme.

Manchester's 85-78 victory against Derby firmly established them as the team to catch in the EABL North, with likely rivals Myerscough and Charnwood both picking up wins yesterday.

The tide may be turning for The Sheffield College, who after a number of seasons looking up at the leaders in the WEABL North, managed to get one over on Charnwood College Riders, coming out on top 77-69 despite trailing by three heading into the fourth quarter.

What does it mean for the standings?

With divisions leaders picking up wins, Manchester (EABL North), CoLA (EABL South and WEABL South) all continue to lead the way, with The Sheffield College (2-0) going to the top of the WEABL North standings.

A winning start for Nottingham Academy Wildcats sets them on their way, with North rivals Manchester Mystics the only tier 1 side yet to play a game.

Player-of-the-week candidates

The EABL produced some incredible individual displays in week three, with seven players all posting a 30+ efficiency stat line.

Barking's Joshua Mendes (24pts, 14reb, 6ast) and Itchen's Ethan Round (35pts, 7reb, 3ast) both led the way with a 39eff, but don't sleep on the likes of Charnwood's Zavier Gleadell-Smith (20pts, 10reb) or Manchester's Demi Babalola (12pts, 19reb, 6ast, 5stl).

Derby duo Casey Burr (28pts, 13reb, 6ast) and Rohan Hobday (20pts, 9reb, 6ast) certainly did all they could despite the Trailblazers' loss against the Magic, whilst Oaklands' Gavin Mitchell (27pts, 11reb, 3ast) was another who shone in a losing effort.

In the WEABL, Oaklands' Holly Welch (21pts, 14reb) was a big part of the Wolves' win, as CoLA forwards Adaora Dioramma (18pts, 19reb) and Eva-Grace Yebila (11pts, 11reb, 4blk) both feasted on HHS.

Sheffield duo Sharmaine Carabana (8pts, 8reb, 7ast, 7stl) and Katie Hancock (15pts, 7reb, 7stl) both deserve recognition for their part in the win over Charnwood, cancelling out a strong effort from the Riders' Grace Nzeakor (16pts, 11reb).

Watch out for the winner on our social channels, with the announcement going live on Friday at 12pm for the EABL, and 2pm for the WEABL.
